The Hidden Hut was a big part of my childhood growing up. Many summers were spent on Porthcurnick Beach on the Roseland, Cornwall building sandcastles and eating ice cream. The Hidden Hut was then, just that, a hut serving ice lollies and cold drinks. Fast forward 30 years. The Hut is now owned by Simon Stallard and Jemma Glass and has been transformed into a gorgeous spot where you can while away time eating freshly cooked soup and feasting on homemade cakes. The Hidden Hut is tucked away along the National Trust coastal path near Portscatho and St Mawes and offers tranquil views where you can’t help but switch off. It is one of my favourite spots made even more special as Portscatho is where my Mum grew up and visits to my Grandparents equalled fish and chips, rock pool exploring and spending days barefoot. The Hidden Hut caters for gluten free diets – hoorah! Many of their soups are gluten free and can be served with gluten free bread. They also have gluten free cake. The team at the Hidden Hut recently brought out a book featuring lots of their recipes.

I received a copy on Christmas Day and within a couple of days I had made one of their soups. Sweet potato and chilli. Super simple, incredibly tasty and it was so bloody good to get some veg back in my system after the Christmas overload!

Next up is the chowder which I plan to do this weekend! Even the recipes that are not gluten free can be easily adapted. Most cookbooks I own often sit on the shelves gathering dust but I am sure this won’t be one of them.
